Travel Notes

Day 10, 24/12/2012, 1116 hrs
Southward

I’m on a train now, passing through beautiful, and at other times depressing landscapes of snow. It’s my second day travelling alone today.

I had my second day in Salzburg yesterday after my housemate left – the day was mostly uneventful as most shops were closed; I did however take some time to walk up towards the Hohensalzburg fortress, to get some views over the city. Salzburg is a very beautiful city, but very touristy and hard to penetrate. It doesn’t help that I don’t speak German.

Yesterday was also plagued with worries about the validity of my train ticket – long story, but I’m glad I’m getting through this leg of the journey, at least. Hopefully the next few rides will go fine as well.

Travelling with my housemates has been a curious experience – it’s always been exciting living and doing things with them, knowing how our tastes and habits differ so greatly. I don’t want to pretend I know much about Germany (despite having been there on three separate occasions), but I do like the country, its language and its food. Its role in the historical and cultural development of Europe is also significant and fascinating throughout.

P.S. Oh, Merry Christmas!
